Judges 10

Two judges who did little of note for the biblical record none the less presided over periods of peace and kept Israel safe for some decades.

But after that Israel returned to worshipping other Gods… a long list of them, and God forsook them.

There is no judge, no agency by which god’s speaks to the people in this chapter. He just “speaks to the children of God”.

I almost feel sorry for Israel here, they are on a hard learning curve for all of us. Yahweh is just so abstract, the lure of tangible gods is just too strong.

It’s sort of the same today. So many people is my church, for example, couldn’t keep God in their head when they hit their twenties and sex became an ever present and so real temptation.
